Peer Support
The ACCESS Center has several layers of peer support built in depending on level of understanding and the ability to support others in their recovery.
- A Volunteer Peer Specialist I has completed Georgia Peer Specialist training and is interested in beginning to support other on daily needs and co-facilitate groups.
- A Volunteer Peer Specialist II has completed the ADI Peer Specialist training and has passed the exam covering 6 basic areas: Roles and Responsibilities, Communication Techniques, Promoting Support for Consumers, Self-Advocacy, Methods for Disengaging from Relationship/Boundaries, and Crisis Recognition.
A Peer Specialist is promoted from Volunteer Peer Specialist II position to a part-time paid position where responsibilities include: Providing peer support for individuals and their families in office, group, home and community based environments to mental health and/or substance abusing clientele. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to effectively meet the clinical needs of the clients. Demonstrates the ability to assist with the performance, analysis and documentation of mental health and substance abuse prevention, and education. Maintains working knowledge of community resources and effectively provides that information to clients and/or their caregivers. Effectively works with referral sources and other community providers to cooperatively meet the needs of clients.
